Welcome to The Stitchery, where passion for God, fabric, and the art of sewing converge. We are Mavis and Sandi, friends who share a deep love for sewing and a mission to ensure that this valuable skill is preserved for future generations.
I'm Mavis, and I have been immersed in the world of quilting for over 25 years. My journey has evolved from a quilter to a pattern designer and teacher. In 2018, I proudly obtained my certification in long arm quilting with APQS & Fons and Porter. My specialization lies in machine quilting exquisite edge-to-edge digitized pantographs, although I also offer personalized custom quilting services. As an APQS sales representative, I am thrilled to showcase our extraordinary machines and share the wonders of the APQS lifetime warranty. You can often find me in the Stitchery, joyfully stitching away, adding texture to customer quilts, teaching long arm quilting to our rental customers, or conducting quilting classes in our dedicated classroom.
And I'm Sandi, a devoted sewing enthusiast with a lifelong passion for this art form. Some of my earliest memories revolve around sitting at a sewing machine at the tender age of 10, guided by my patient mother. She imparted the skills she had learned from her own mother, who had sewn on a Singer treadle machine. The joy of wearing something I had crafted with my own hands was immensely rewarding. Over the years, I had the privilege of passing on this same love and skill to my own daughters. My sewing journey has taken me from creating costumes for theaters and luau companies in Hawaii to crafting countless doll clothes and various craft projects. However, my favorite pastime remains creating garments for myself, my family, and my Red Hat sisters.
It saddens us that home economics, with its opportunity to discover the passion of creating unique items and experience the sense of accomplishment that comes with finishing challenging projects, is becoming a lost art in schools. But we are determined to change that narrative. The Stitchery is our new passion project, providing a welcoming space for learning, creativity, and enjoyment. Here, we will not only create beautiful clothes and quilts but also rekindle the love of sewing within our community. Our mission is to ensure the survival of sewing and quilting skills, allowing them to be passed down to future generations. We invite you to join us on this exciting journey.
